- George Huguely Found Guilty of Second-Degree Murder, Grand Larceny; Jury Recommends 26 Years

Former Virginia men's lacrosse player George Huguely has been found guilty of second-degree murder and grand larceny — but not first-degree murder and the life sentence that charge carries — in the death of former Virginia women's lacrosse player Yeardley Love, the jury announced Wednesday night after nine hours of deliberation.
The jury recommended a sentence of 26 years in prison for Huguely (25 for the murder charge and one more for larceny). Judge Edward Hogshire set the formal sentencing for April 16.

The new-look Long Island Lizards have made another pickup, grabbing former Denver Outlaw Brian Langtry from the Player Pool on Wednesday.
"I know he still has plenty in the tank," Lizards' coach Joe Spallina said Wednesday. Spallina said he has spoken to Langtry, and the midfielder is excited to play on Long Island and that not playing in the NLL has his body ready for the Major League Lacrosse season.

The NCAA Division I Championship is returning to a 1 p.m. start time for 2012 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., a move some were calling for after last year's final received less-than-stellar attendance.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - Steele Stanwick scored two goals and dished out five assists as the No. 1 Virginia Cavaliers (2-0) won its home opener for the fifth-straight year, defeating the VMI Keydets (0-3) on Tuesday evening, 19-5, inside Klöckner Stadium. Virginia now owns a 19-0 all-time record against its in-state opponent.

Though George Huguely V is charged with premeditated murder in the 2010 death of his University of Virginia girlfriend, Yeardley Love, attorneys following the case say it's unlikely that the jury will find he intended to kill her when members begin deliberating Wednesday in Charlottesville, Va., Circuit Court.
But that doesn't mean he won't be found culpable. Even his lawyers have said that Huguely, who admits drunkenly assaulting Love, bears responsibility for her death.

BALTIMORE — The third-ranked Johns Hopkins men’s lacrosse team built a five-goal, third-quarter lead then held off a furious rally by 16th-ranked Delaware as the Blue Jays improved to 2-0 on the year with an 8-6 win over the Blue Hens at Homewood Field Tuesday evening. Hopkins also extended its home winning streak to eight games with the win and moved to 9-0 all-time against the Blue Hens.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Rutgers men’s lacrosse team downed Wagner by a score of 9-5 inside Wagner College Stadium on Tuesday to improve to 2-1 overall in the first year of head coach Brian Brecht’s tenure “On the Banks”. The Scarlet Knights outperformed the Seahawks on the offensive and defensive ends, firing 42 shot attempts while only allowing 14. RU was led in scoring by senior co-captain M Will Mangan (Maplewood, N.J.), who notched his second hat-trick in as many games and dished two assists to total five points
